Nigerian stars abroad on fire

The football leagues across Europe are slowing stirring from hibernation after the summer break and as always, Nigerians are making their impact felt.
In the United States and China, veterans, Obafemi Martins and Yakubu Aiyegbeni have continued to display that the saying, “Wine gets better with age” is apt, as they both scored for their respective clubs at the weekend.
Unheralded talent, Sylvester Igboun is fast turning out to be a precocious talent worthy of mention as he rattled in yet another goal for Midtylland in Denmark’s Superliga.
Elsewhere, there was the small matter of a certain Emmanuel Emenike who has roared back to fitness after an injury-blighted 2012/13 season.
The forward has now scored for the third week running and his strike helped Spartak Moscow earn a share of the spoils against Kuban Krasnodar in the Russia Premier League.

Belgium (Jupiler Pro League)
Michael Uchebo was drafted in as a 66th minute substitute for Frederick Boi but failed to help Cercle Brugge as they lost 0-4 to Anderlecht at the Jan Breydelstadion.
Kingsley Ojo was an unused substitute for Genk as his side thrashed OH Leuven at Den Dreef.
Ezekiel Imoh was on for all 90 minutes for Standard Liege in the club’s 3-0 win against Lierse at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne.
Imoh provided the assist for Standard’s second goal scored by Mujanji Bia.
China (Super League)
Yakubu Aiyegbeni scored for Guangzhou R&F in their 2-0 win over Qingdao Jonoon on Sunday.
Denmark (Superliga)
Igboun scored for Midtylland in the club’s 2-0 win against Sonderjyske at the MCH Arena.
Igboun’s compatriot, Izunna Uzochukwu played all 90 minutes for the victors while Ebere Onuachu came on as a substitute for Midtylland.
Olasukanmi Ashiru was an unused substitute for Midtylland.
Poland (Ekstraklasa)
Princewill Okachi played all 90 minutes for Widzew Lodz in the club’s 2-1 win against Korona Kielce at the Stadion im Ludwika, Sobolewskiego.
Russia
Ahmed Musa played all 90 minutes but failed to score for CSKA Moscow in the club’s 0-0 draw against Rubian Kazan at Central’nyi stadion Kazan.
Emenike cannot stop scoring and he was again among the goals for Spartak Moscow in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Kuban Krasnodar at Stadion Kuban.
Scotland (Scottish Premiership)
Rabiu Ibrahim waited until 55 minutes before getting his chance of coming on as a second half substitute for Kilmarnock in the club’s 1-2 loss at Aberdeen.
Efe Ambrose played all 90 minutes for Celtic in the 2-1 win over Ross County at Celtic Park.
Sweden (Allsvenskan)
Kennedy Igboananike played for 84 minutes and helped AIK Solna beat Elfsborn 2-1 at the Friends Arena.
John Owoeri was on for an hour as his side, Atvidaberg drew 1-1 against Gefle at Kopparvallen.
Dominic Chatto played all 90 minutes for Hatten but he watched on helpless as his side were trounced 1-3 by IFK Goteborg.
United States (Major League Soccer)
Martins scored his seventh league goal of the season in the Western Conference for Seattle Sounders in the 3-0 win over FC Dallas at the Century Link field, Seattle.

‘Mu’azu’s peace talks with Obasanjo failed’

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo There are strong indications that efforts by the Peoples Democratic Party to make former President Olusegun Obasanjo to have a rethink  on his decision to stay away from the party’s activities  have failed.  Investigations on Thursday showed that Obasanjo insisted when the new PDP National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu visited him on January 26, that Jonathan  must  honour his alleged promise in 2011 not to contest the 2015 presidential election.
