NGO holds workshop for challenged kids

A UK based NGO, through its Nigerian affiliation, Special Needs Children Charity, recently held a one-day-seminar/workshop for challenged children at Wesley School for the Hearing impaired, Surulere, Lagos.Commenting during the event which attracted experts in child care, parents and challenged children, UK based Sharon Cole, the coordinator of Special Needs Children’s Charity said: “We are here to interact with care givers and parents of special needs children.Our intention is to shed light and educate on the challenges challenged kids face on a day to day basis and how to overcome these challenges.At the end of this workshop, participants would learn how to cope on a day to day basis with anything that has to do with emotions, finding help, how to get information and how your kid can progress academically without being dependent on you or a care giver among others.We also talked about the emotional part which deals with stress, misconceptions and discrimination to mention a few.Made in Heaven is a UK based charity that specializes in advocacy and medical treatment for disabled kids abroad. Among others it has partnered Down Syndrome Scotland, UK. Autism UK, Kids Aware, NUBAA UK and Drums & Sticks, a charity which seeks to discover and harness the artistic side of challenged kids.
