It was on Monday morning. Nancy woke up to prepare for school. She brushed her teeth, washed her face, prepared a little indomie which she took with bread. She took her bath and left. School was nice. You will see your mates going to lectures. Some would be going with their girlfriends, boyfriends, and some going alone. The school environment was nice, ranging from the trees ar ound to how conducive it was for students who love staying under trees to make love, the lecture hall was situated almost everywhere, the library which was assumed to be the biggest in West Africa. Coming inside the school, you may have to trek for a little longer distance before you get to where lecture halls were situated. The hostel was a little bit old but nice. The boys hostel is different from the girls hostel though they are on the same compound but on different location. The girls hostel has always been believed the finest; very opposite of the boys. ASUU president, Fagge A Lecturer at the University of Calabar, Dr Edidiong Ebitu, has described the new demands by the Academic Staff Union of Universities as an act of sabotage of the education sector. Ebitu made the declaration on Friday in Uyo in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria. The teacher, who is a senior lecturer in the Department of Marketing in the university, said he was in support of the Federal Government’s directive that lecturers should resume classes. “The various branches of ASUU had already voted to resume classes. The over four-months strike has done enough damage to the system. “The president had made reasonable concessions, so ASUU should resume for other things to fall in place,” he said. National President, ASUU, Nasir Issa-Faggae The Academic Staff Union of Universities has banned a faction of the union at the University of Ilorin, led by Professor Wahab Egbewole, from going ahead with its planned procession for the late Prof. Festus Iyayi. The union said it was still mourning Iyayi, who died when a bus conveying some ASUU leaders was involved in an accident with a vehicle in the convoy of Kogi State Governor Idris Wada in Lokoja last week. ASUU said it had not approved any procession for any of its branches. It also described the planned procession in Ilorin as hypocritical. NSCDC OFFICERS The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Thursday began seven days fasting and prayer for an end to the lingering Academic Staff of Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) strike. This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the corps, Mr Emmanuel Okeh. The statement said that Dr Ade Abolurin, the Commandant General of the corps, directed the officers and personnel of the corps nationwide, to embark on the exercise.
