Boko Haram: Jonathan launches Nigeria’s first Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, yesterday unveiled Nigeria’s first Indigenous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), to combat insecurity in the country. The Unmanned Ariel Vehicle,  code named “Gulma”, produced by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), is capable of performing both military and civil roles such as surveillance, disaster management, convoy protection and maritime patrol. It is also capable of performing policing operations,  pipeline and power line monitoring, border patrol, weather forecasting among others. Unveiling the UAV, during a ceremony held at the 333, Logistic Group Hanger, Kaduna, President Goodluck Jonathan commended officers and men of the Nigerian armed forces for their commitment of not just protecting the nation’s sovereignty but helping to keep our nation ahead in military science and technology. Chief Segun Osoba Confirms: Letter To Obasanjo: Iyabo and I Met In Cambridge And She Expressed The Same Sentiments

Former Governor Segun Osoba of Ogun State who is also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that he met Iyabo Obasanjo, the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, during his trip to the United States in September 2013. Recounting his chance meeting with Ms. Obasanjo to SaharaReporters, Chief Osoba said he was in the United States for the 73rd anniversary of the Nieman Foundation Fellowship when he ran into Iyabo, a former senator in Nigeria. The former governor told SaharaReporters he was staying at The Charles Hotel in Cambridge when he had a chance encounter with the daughter of the former president who told him her car was parked in the hotel’s basement parking lot. Google Glass eyewear lets winking snap pictures

Google Glass on Tuesday announced updates to the software in its Internet-linked eyewear to allow users to snap pictures by winking. The new feature, which promises to escalate privacy concerns already being voiced about the high-tech gadget, came as one of an array of improvements. “We’ve got a new setting that lets you quickly and easily capture the moments you care about with a simple wink of the eye,” Google Glass posted on its Google+ social network page. “We’re starting with pictures, but just think about what else is possible,” the message continued. Notions put forth included Glass wearers someday paying for cab rides by winking at meters or buying something in a shop with a blink. Updates included letting owners lock eyewear so it can’t be used unless a person knows the right “handshake” of swipes and taps. Gunmen kill 5, injure 4 in Plateau

Five persons were killed and four others injured by gunmen on Tuesday night at Maraba Foron, Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau. The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Plateau Police Command, ASP Dominic Esin, confirmed the killings on Wednesday in Jos. Esin said that four of the dead were children while a member of the community’s vigilance group also died. The deputy PPRO said that the man was killed when he came out to ascertain what was happening after hearing gunshots in the village. Two of the four persons injured, according to Esin, are the father and mother of the four children who were killed by the attackers. He said that the injured persons were now receiving treatment at the Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos. Hundreds dead, thousands flee South Sudan clashes

Hundreds of people have died and up to 20,000 others have fled to UN bases in days of fierce fighting in South Sudan’s army after an alleged coup bid, officials said. The United States ordered non-essential embassy staff out of the country, the world’s youngest nation and awash with guns after decades of war, amid fears of a descent into wider ethnic violence. In the capital Juba, gunfire still rang out into the early hours of Wednesday morning, an AFP reporter said. “There are people walking in the city this morning, but it would be premature to say things are back to normal,” he said. The government ordered Juba airport to re-open, although regional airlines said they were waiting for security guaranties before allowing flights bound for Juba to take off. “We are waiting for confirmation that the airport is safe,” a Kenya Airways official said. “For the moment it is 50-50″.
