ASUU Strike: Baraje-led PDP faction goes spiritual

BY: FUNMI OJUROYE  15th Sept. 2013 A factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abubakar Baraje, has requested all members of the party worldwide to embark on seven days of fasting and prayers commencing from Monday, September 16 as one of the ways of resolving the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. Mr. Baraje said his faction decided to commit the present logjam in educational sector to God because it has proven too intractable for the Federal Government to solve. Police Debunks Claim That 50 NYSC Members Died In Nasarawa

BY: FUNMI OJUROYE  15th Sept. 2013 The Commissioner of police, Nasarawa state command, Mr Umar Shehu has debunked claims that 50 NYSC members serving in Nasarawa state lost their lives as a result of the ethnic clashes in the state. Although the ethnic violence between the outlawed Ombatse militia of Eggon and the Alago people of Obi local government spreads from Aduba through Obi to Assakio, he assured that youth corps members serving in these areas are under security protection. Mr Shehu disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the efforts made by security operatives to contain the crisis. The fresh crisis erupted following the killing of an Eggon man by the Alago group, which led to reprisal attacks yesterday. The violence between the two ethnic groups began 24 hours ago, with hundreds of houses set ablaze which the police said did not claim any lives. CSNAC Files FOI Request With CCB Demanding Information On Police Pension Fund Looting Case Of Uzoma Attang Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC) has filed a Freedom of Information (FOI) request with the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) demanding an update on its investigation of the case of Mrs. Uzoma Attang. By a letter of August 23, 2012, the CCB applied to withdraw the charges brought against Mrs. Attang to enable the Bureau conclude further investigations on the matter. CSNAC observed that one year after the withdrawal, the CCB has yet to offer any information as to its findings or the state of its investigation. “As you might be aware, Mrs. Attang was arraigned by the Economic and financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for her involvement in the looting of Police pension fund worth N39billion,” the letter said.  “On September 4th, 2013 the EFCC carried out a court order to freeze the assets and bank accounts of Mrs. Uzoma Attang, pending the hearing and final determin...
