A tenant sets house ablaze, kills landlord, wife

BY: FUNMI OJUROYE  24th Sept. 2013 A tenant of a house on Asuquo Eyo Street, Ifa Ikot Okpon, Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, identified simply as Ime, aka Shawa, has been accused of killing his landlord and the wife and also setting the house ablaze. It was said that Ime, 40, had attacked his landlord, Mr. Edem Akpan and his wife, Affiong, with machete before setting the house on fire. One of the daughters to the late couple, Ms. Emem Akpan, told our correspondent that trouble started when her father gave Ime a quit notice. She said Ime had threatened that if her father insisted on sending him (Ime) out, he would kill  him and burn down the house. She said, “We thought it was just a mere threat. Teenage boys were raped by 2 men

BY: FUNMI OJUROYE  24th Sept. 2013 Police Command says it has arrested two persons suspected of homosexuality and another for rape. Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr. Fwaje Atajiri, made this known yesterday in Gombe. Atajiri said that a 25-year-old suspected homosexual of Dubai by-pass Gombe had, on September 15, lured a seven-year-old boy to an uncompleted building, threatened him with a knife and raped him. According to him, an old man notified the police after querying the boy, whom he met walking in pains after the rape. The police spokesman said the suspect was immediately arrested and after interrogation allegedly confessed to have committed the offence. Also, Atajiri said another suspect, who resides at Riyal quarters, Gombe, was arrested at a building site in Cham village of Balanga Local Government after raping a 12-year-old boy. Students Insist On Planned Protest Despite Police Presence

BY: FUNMI OJUROYE  24th Sept. 2013 micblogspot image Despite the heavy presence of security men at the premises of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) following the students' plan to protest the lingering industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Tuesday, the students have insisted that they will proceed with their demonstration regardless of the development. ASUU has been on strike since June 1, 2013 following the inability of the Nigerian Government to honor the agreement it signed with the union in 2009. The UNILAG students are also agitating for the reinstatement of their Student Union Government (SUG) as well as the reversal on the hike in tuition at the Lagos State University (LASU). BIRTHDAY TRAGEDY: Girl raped, fiance shot

BY: FUNMI OJUROYE  24th Sept. 2013 Tragedy struck at the university town of Nsukka, Enugu State, weekend, as unidentified gunmen raped a young girl, who was celebrating her birthday with her lover boy, who was also shot in the head. Vanguard  gathered that the incident occurred last Saturday, when the girl’s boyfriend, identified as Sunday Ozioko, 30, took out his lover in his new Toyota Camry saloon car as part of the birthday celebration. It was learned that the gunmen, who rode in a motorcycle, blocked the vehicle along Orba Road at 6.30p.m., took over the car and sped off through Orba Market to Obollo-Afor. They stopped at Alor-Ano Community Secondary School, raped the girl and shot her fiancé, who survived the attack, but was said to be in critical condition.
