In Defence Of The ASUU Strike By Ayokunle Adeleye

Resolved: ASUU strikes are utterly ineffective, totally uncalled for, profoundly senseless, and the students are always the only victims. Defence: It is no news that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had for the past three years embarked on shorter, warning, strikes over the non-implementation of its Agreement with the Federal Government (FG) with the general public- and market women- haplessly looking on and seemingly enjoying the show; after all, silence means consent. Finally, the perpetual stimulus has reached threshold potential and the whole nation runs amok over a long-foreseen and imminent titanic contraction. Abaa! Where was the Senate during those calmer, but inoculating, times when ASUU yelled and none responded. Wasn't this the same Senate that would rather cut off our petroleum product subsidy than starve their obese allowances? Now that ASUU has thrown away its hearing aid we blame her for a deafness we all share(d), a deafness we stubbornly refuse...

Reps probe alleged moves to sell UN rep’s residence

The House of Representatives, yesterday, commenced probe of alleged plans by the Federal Government to sell the official residence of Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, UN, in Tarry Town, New York, United States of America, USA. This followed a motion sponsored by 19 members of the House, who described the move as ridiculous. Highlighting the synopsis of the motion entitled Urgent Need to Forestall the Alleged Plan to Sell the Official Residence of Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United, UN, in Tarry Town, New York, the chief mover, Yakubu Dogara, said Nigeria could not afford to sell an edifice built by the government of late Abubakar Tafawa Belewa, especially now that the country was close to having a permanent seat in UN’s Security Council. Man stabs friend to death for allegedly befriending wife

Mr. Yusuf's wife A middle-aged man identified as Wasiu Yusuf has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stabbing his bosom friend, Adeolu Olatoye,  to death for having clandestine relationship with his wife. Vanguard gathered that the incident which occurred at Oke-Efon area of  Abeokuta, Saturday  night,  was reportedly  carried out by the  suspect and one  accomplice identified as Mukaila, said to be on the run as at the time of this report. It was further gathered that the suspect lost his temperament when he reportedly caught  his 32 -year-old  friend  with his wife on the day of the incident on his matrimonial bed. The suspect, according to the findings, laid siege for the victim who reportedly came  to his house, and in the ensuing scuffle,the victim erroneously stabbed himself.
