FLOOD IN LAGOS

Due to today's rain, the Ojude Berger of Lagos state, was in bad shape causing, motorists, pedestrians and shop owners to stand still.  The federal and state government shouldn't neglect this problem, else it starts pulling down houses and shop. Army kills 7 Boko Haram suspects in Borno

The 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, said it shot dead seven suspected Boko Haram militants in a renewed onslaught in suspected hideouts of the insurgents in Borno. Lt.-Col. Mohammad Dole, the spokesman of the division, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Maiduguri. ā€œIn simultaneous operations conducted by troops from 5 Brigade at Ngala axis and 21 Brigade at general area of Bama on Monday, the military recorded huge successes as seven suspected Boko Haram militants were killed and several others injured. ā€ A total of 13 vehicles and several motorcycles belonging to the terrorists were destroyed. ā€œSome of the vehicles destroyed contained Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) meant to be detonated in some towns and villages within the state.ā€ ā€œSeveral arms and ammunition were also captured,ā€ Dole said.

ASUU considers calling off strike after 13-hour meeting with Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday led a negotiation meeting with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to end the protracted strike embarked upon by the union since July 1. The13-hour meeting started at about 2.30 p.m. on Monday at the Presidential Villa and ended at 3.30 a.m. on Tuesday. The meeting had in attendance the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) led by their respective Chairmen Abduwaheed Omar and Bobbo Kaigama. The ASUU team was led by the union’s President, Dr. Nasir Fagge, three former presidents of the union, professors Dipo Fashina, Abdullahi Sule-Kano and Festus Iyayi as well as professors Biodun Osiyemi, Victor Osodeke, Suleiman Abdullahi and Dr. Victor Igbum. On the government negotiation team were, Vice President Namadi Sambo; Minister of Labour, Chukwuemeka Wogu; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the Minister of State for Education...

Boko Haram: Amnesty committee submits report

By: Funmi Ojuroye November 5, 2013 The Kabiru Turaki-led Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North, today Tuesday, submitted its report to President Goodluck Jonathan inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The committee recommended among others the setting up of an advisory committee on continuous dialogues that will have powers to advise the President on all matters related to dialogue and resolution or crisis. It also recommended the setting up of a Victims Support Fund for victims of insurgency to be administered by a new agency established specifically to assist the victims. A meeting between the President and security chiefs is currently ongoing.

Jonathan, ASUU meeting: Varsity teachers still undecided

By: Funmi Ojuroye November 5, 2013  President Goodluck  The over 12 hours marathon meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities ended at about 3.30am on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja without a commitment from the union members. ASUU President, Dr. Nasir Isa Faggae, told State House correspondent that the delegation was taking back an undisclosed message to their members following which a decision will be taken on the union’s next line of action. ā€œWe have had a lengthy meeting with Mr. President, robbing minds on how best to address the problem of university education in this country. We now have a message from Mr. President that we are going to take to our members and we are expecting that our members will respond appropriately to his message,ā€ he said.
