EFCC arrests fake Police Commissioner

BY: FUNMI OJUROYE  October 12th 2013 Attempt by a middle-aged man to present himself as a senior police commissioner  and curry favour from unsuspecting government agencies in the Federal Capital Territory, has backfired, exposing him as fake Assistant Police Commissioner. Convinced that Kunle Adeshola, who also goes by the names of Dr. Kunle Shoal, Dr K. Adeshola and Sunday Mealayeshe Adekunle was not sincere in his exploits, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, immediately arrested and detained him in their custody. A statement from the commission made available to Vanguard yesterday, described the suspect as a serial impostor and self-acclaimed Assistant Commissioner of Police who has been parading himself as an operative of the EFCC and defrauding officials of government agencies under the guise of conducting phantom investigations. 3 indicted in bikers' clash with SUV driver; 3 NYPD officers under investigation

BY: FUNMI OJUROYE  October 12th 2013 Three bikers have been indicted in connection with a well-publicized clash with a New York SUV driver, the Manhattan District Attorney's office said Friday. Craig Wright, 29, and Reginald Chance, 37, were indicted Friday, according to the district attorney's office. A third man, Robert Sims, 35, was indicted on Thursday, it said. Authorities say Alexander Lien was chased by bikers after he initially bumped one during a biker rally on September 29. When his SUV was surrounded by several bikers, Lien called 9-1-1, told police he feared for his life and drove off, running over bikers and critically injuring one. Lien's wife and 2-year-old daughter were in the vehicle with him. Lien has not been charged. The chase that followed ended in traffic. UNICEF wants more girls in school

BY: FUNMI OJUROYE  October 12th 2013 To mark the second International Day of the Girl Child, UNICEF on Friday, highlighted the power of innovation to get more girls in school. It advocated improvement in the quality of learning for all children. A statement by UNICEF Nigeria Country Office, made available by its Communication Specialist, Media and External Relations, Geoffrey Njoku, decried the decreasing number of girls out of school. The statement said that despite this reality, many girls around the world were still denied a quality education and a chance to reach their full potential. It added, “Evidence shows that even a single year of secondary school for a girl correlates with as much as a 25 per cent increase in her future earnings. Mother, 28, strangles two-day old boy to death

BY: FUNMI OJUROYE  October 12th 2013 Benue   State Police Command has apprehended a 28- year old mother, Joy Iember Iorzua for allegedly killing and dumping her two- day old baby boy, at the River Ujiiragbo, in Gwer local government area of the state. Saturday Vanguard gathered that the suspect  was arrested at Mbasa-Mbakine Gee council ward by members of the vigilante group operating in the community  who handed her over to the Police in Aliade, the local government headquarters.
