PDP chieftain warns politicians against use of religious sentiments

Alhaji Ahmed Gusau, former Minister of Solid Minerals, on Tuesday advised against the use of religious sentiments in the run up to the 2015 general elections. Gusau, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), gave the advice at a news conference in Sokoto on Tuesday. He said, “what is important for Nigerians is to put the Nigerian agenda forward and collectively and logically pursue it. “The time has therefore come for all Nigerians to combine forces for the development of the country; otherwise, we are wasting our time’’, Gusau said. The former minister stressed that “God in His mercy decided to make Nigeria what it is today and there is no way anybody can change history. “We are Nigerians; we have experienced a transition of more than 15 years under democracy. “It is about time to grow up and set our sentiments aside. Ejigbo 2: Fasehun orders OPC manhunt

The Founder of the O’odua People’s Congress (OPC), Dr Frederick Fasehun, on Tuesday ordered a manhunt by the group for those involved in the alleged torture of two women in Ejigbo, Lagos State. Fasehun also commended the Lagos State House of Assembly and the Majority Leader, Mr Mojibayo Adeyeye, for placing N1 million and N250,000 bounties respectively on the culprits. The News Agency of Nıgerıa  (NAN) reports that the Lagos House of Assembly, after a public hearing on the matter on Jan. 8, promised a reward of N1 million for information that would lead to arrest of the culprits. A NGO, Women Arise, had on Dec. 23, 2013, staged a protest to the assembly to create awareness on the abuse and brutalisation of the women sometime in February, 2013. YCE wants Jonathan to compensate S/W with CBN governor’s position

Dr. Dejo Raimi Yoruba Council of Elders  has called on  President Goodluck Jonathan to compensate the South West with position of the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. This, it said, would make up for the loss of the position of the Speaker, House of Representatives. According to YCE through its National Treasurer of YCE, Dr. Dejo Raimi, said the president had made the promise to compensate the zone when they visited him in Abuja to complain about alleged marginalisation of the zone in the distribution of political appointments. Dr. Raimi, said the position of the Yorubas in the current political dispensation was not commensurate with contributions they made towards the emergence of some leaders of government.
