B’Haram: Fulfil promises to Borno others, US tells Jonathan

Image
THE United States has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to fulfil his promises to implement developmental projects in the troubled states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa in order to curb Boko Haram insurgency in the region. The three states have been under the emergency rule since May. US Permanent Representatives to the United Nations, Samantha Power, who said this in her opening remarks at a meeting with some civil society organisations in Abuja on Wednesday, also expressed worry about what she called uncoordinated security crackdown on Boko Haram members. This, she noted, had resulted in loss of lives of many innocent people. She said, “The United States is concerned by some of the stories we hear of inhumane detention practices in Nigeria, and I have discussed this with officials here. Security crackdowns that do not discriminate between legitimate targets and innocent civilians are both counterproductive and wrong. “We know how hard it is to fight insurgency and terrorism, but we h...

Buhari: APC will meet Obasanjo soon

Image
The leadership of the All Progressives Congress is to meet with former President Olusegun Obasanjo to explain the reason behind the formation of the party. A former Head of State and a chief of the party, Gen.  Muhammadu Buhari, said this in an interview with journalists at the residence of a former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in Abuja on Wednesday. Buhari said the leadership of APC had been visiting other notable Nigerians and that it was time to also pay a visit to Obasanjo. He said,  “We have been visiting others like the G7 Governors; we have visited former heads of state, and we intend to visit former President Olusegun Obasanjo any time he is available, to ask for understanding and brief him on why we formed the APC.” He said that he was happy with the discussion the leadership of the party had with Abubakar, who he said had promised to discuss with his supporters and political associates before taking a decision on whether to defect from the ruling People...

Image
The damning 11-page letter allegedly written by Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, first daughter of former President Olusegun Obsanjo, topped the list of trending topics on social media on Wednesday. In the letter entitled “Open Letter to my Father”, which has since gone viral online, Iyabo purportedly scathingly attacked his father. While issuing a disclaimer that the controversial letter “is not in support of President Jonathan or APC or any other group or person, but an outpouring from my soul to God”, Iyabo purportedly described his father as self-serving liar and cruel man. The former senator’s controversial letter came barely nine days after her father slammed the President also in a letter . But this new development has since stirred a debate online as Nigerians are divided over the authenticity or otherwise of the said letter, moreso that the alleged author of the letter is said to be away abroad. A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, who had initially taken to Twitter...
