Kebbi compensates five victims of police shooting
The Kebbi State Government on Thursday disbursed seven million naira as compensation to five families whose members were shot by the police two weeks ago.
Two persons were shot dead, while three others sustained injuries following a violent clash between youths and the police in Warra village, in the Ngaski Local Government Area of the state.
The state governor, Alhaji Saidu Dakingari, announced the compensation in Utono, Ngaski Local Government Area, while inaugurating a road construction project in the community.
Dakingari said that two million naira had been released to each of the families of the deceased, while the families of the three injured persons would receive one million naira each.
He assured the people that the incident would be investigation, and the culprits prosecuted.
Earlier, the Emir of Yauri, Alhaji Zayyanu Abdullahi, expressed dismay over the recurring incidents of killing of civilians by the police in the area over minor issues.
He urged the state governor to fulfill his pledge to investigate past incidents and prosecute the culprits.
He said that the Warra killings were the third in the area, adding that failure to prosecute the culprits would be a threat to peace.
The emir also recalled that a member of a vigilante group was shot by the police in error over suspicion that he was an armed robber, adding that the incident generated tension between civilians and the police in the area.
Abdullahi appealed to the governor to reveal the outcome of the investigations to prevent any break down of law and order.
