Why one Arsenal player is hoping Bernard transfer rumours are false

Ryo to get Arsenal chance? by AT
It seems as though the Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been very impressed by the Japanese youngster Ryo Miyaichi’s performances in the club’s tour of Asia, so much so that he has hinted that the teenage prodigy will stay at Arsenal for the coming season and not go out on loan once again.
With Andrey Arshavin already being released and Gervinho edging closer to a move to AS Roma, the Gunners find themselves a little short of wide options at the moment, especially on the left. But rather than going in for a new winger, the Arsenal boss seems to be leaning towards promoting Ryo to the first team.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the Frenchman said, “Ryo has done well, you could see that he is finding his sharpness back. He was better here than in the other game [against Nagoya Grampus] and he is on the way up. He is fighting for his position like many players. I like his game.
“I believe he is in a position where he needs to play to have a good chance of competing at the top level. At the moment he will stay in the squad. Should we buy more players I will have to reassess the situation. At the moment he will stay with us.”
Personally, I think we have to bring in another winger rather than promote Ryo. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s an extremely talented young player and definitely one for the future. The reason that I think so is because he won’t be seeing much first-team football if he stays, which will most likely hinder his development. Not to mention, it won’t do much good for his confidence either.
Another thing is that he’s just returned from a long-term injury, so we won’t be getting the best out of him even if he does stay. Players usually take a while to get back to their best after suffering an injury like that, especially players of his age group. I feel that it is in his best interest to go out on loan again.
What I would like Wenger to do is go out and get Bernard. Marca recently reported that the Brazilian was on his way to London Colney for a medical but unfortunately, that story turned out to be BS. However, the interest seems to be genuine, a bunch of commentators in the Copa Libertadores final even claimed that the 20-year-old was already an Arsenal player. Okay, that’s very unlikely to be true but again, the interest is definitely there.
Bernard, in my opinion, will have a more realistic chance of first-team football and with a little time, he will grow into a regular starter, on the wing or as a playmaker. If the Gunners do sign the young Brazilian, it will definitely mean that Ryo will be heading out on loan, so this is one transfer the Japanese winger does not want to come off, as he is desperate to get the chance to prove himself at Arsenal.
I might be getting a little ahead of myself here but in a few years time, we could have four quality wide men in Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Bernard and a much-improved Ryo Miyaichi.
