Bernard MAY be worth £20m+ but Arsenal should not pay it

Over the last week or so there have been a lot of rumours suggesting that Arsenal were set to complete the signing of their first major player this summer in a move for young Brazilian midfielder Bernard. Bernard who plays for Atletico Mineiro was nothing more than another player with potential talent before the Confederations Cup this summer, but his performances over the course of the tournament claimed him a lot of plaudits and ultimately we now recognise him as one of the world’s upcoming superstars.
And although I agree he is a fantastic little player and I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing him at Arsenal, the main two issues I have with the player is his valuation, which I feel is quite high, especially for an inexperienced 20 year old who hasn’t played in Europe, and the second reason is that exactly – inexperience. As you’ll soon see from the quotes, £22 million is obviously a lot of money, especially for Arsenal and I just don’t see why Wenger would pay that for Bernard.
The club president of Mineiro stated, “The president has made it clear that if there is a 25m Euros (£22m) offer, he will sell Bernard and we will sign another player. Otherwise Bernard stays. He is young and can leave at the end of the year. Arsenal have denied the Bernard rumour. He is the great player of the moment.”
Interestingly he mentions Arsenal, perhaps hinting that there is genuine interest from the Gunners, especially after Wenger’s denial, which is what is being stated there, but as I was saying I don’t see why Wenger would struggle to agree to a £20 million price for Higuain or Jovetic, yet is happy to pay it for Bernard. It just doesn’t make sense to me and ultimately if this is the price they are demanding I’m not sure we should go with it.
It’s just over a quarter of our transfer budget for the summer and it’s for a player that I don’t think we really need. A CAM is a luxury extra this summer in my opinion and shouldn’t be a main target area like a DM and so we definitely shouldn’t be looking to pay this much for him. Do you agree?

‘Mu’azu’s peace talks with Obasanjo failed’
