Youths protest killings in southern Kaduna
Southern Kaduna youths on Thursday protested against the killings by yet-to-be identified gunmen in parts of the area.
The protest, which started about 10am in Manchok in Kaura Local Government Area of the state, terminated at the Chief Kagoro palace.
The Chief of Kagoro and Leader of Southern Kaduna Traditional Rulers,Chief Ufuwai Bonet, however, shunned the youths, who stormed his palace to submit their letter over massive killings in the zone.
The youth and organisers of the protest, the Concerned Southern Kaduna Youths,waited in front of the chief’s Palace for 30 minutes without seeing him to receive the letter on behalf of his colleagues.
The youth carried placards with inscriptions such as ‘Stop Genocide in Southern Kaduna Now’,’They kill us on daily basis in our land’ and ‘Our land under siege’, among others.
The procession started by 10am at Manchok Junction in Kagoro town to the palace of the traditional rulers, ending at12.40pm.
The chief, it was gathered declined to come out to receive the youth, who were on peaceful protest and their letter.
As a way of proffering solution to the unending killings in the area, the Convener of Concerned Southern Kaduna Youths, Vincent Bodam, recommended the formation of Southern Kaduna Vigilante Service to boost the effort of the military in the zone.
He called for an urgent Southern Kaduna Security Summit, appealing to traditional rulers to set up a Relief Fund for the displaced persons.
