Bayern continue perfect start under Guardiola

BY: FUNMI OJUROYE Croatia striker Mario Mandzukic helped Bayern Munich continue their perfect start to the season with the only goal in a 1-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt. Mandzukic struck after 13 minutes as Bayern made it two wins from two matches under new boss Pep Guardiola. Striker Mario Gotze, Bayern’s £31.5m summer signing from Borussia Dortmund, was an unused substitute as he waits for his debut. Victory in Frankfurt saw Bayern’s current crop equal a club record of 27 Bundesliga matches without defeat. Alexander Meier had a goal ruled out for the home side. Guardiola took over from Jupp Heynckes, who won the treble of the Champions League, German Cup and Bundesliga in 2012/13. Mandzukic’s goal was the least Bayern deserved by half-time as he acrobatically volleyed home from Thomas Muller’s cross. But Frankfurt, who lost 6-1 at newly-promoted Hertha Berlin in their opener, improved after the break and spurned a late chance to equalise.

ASUU set to suspend strike this week

ASUU president, Fagge Indications have emerged that the  Academic Staff Union of Universities may call off the over four-month-old strike on Thursday. Barring a last-minute change, the National Executive Committee of ASUU will meet on Wednesday night to consider the position of the congresses of the over 50 public universities on the offer made by the Federal government to revamp the institutions. The  union met with  a Federal Government team led by President Goodluck Jonathan last Tuesday in Abuja. The  ASUU leadership, after briefing the zonal coordinators  on  the offer, had directed the local branches   to organise  congress meetings between Friday last week and Tuesday (tomorrow). This is to enable all the lecturers to make input into the action the union would take after its NEC meeting on Thursday. Is no longer a news that activities have been paralyzed in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Abeokuta, Ogun state for over three months due to upgrade of the citadel of learning to degree awarding institution cum the establishment of Ogun state polytechnic. We (Bloggers) pledge and appeal to the whole world to follow up this fuss between the ASUP MAPOLY chapter and Ogun state government because where two elephants fight, the grass suffers. The career of the innocent students have been paralyzed and stagnant for months now because of political ambition of the state government cum the job securement of the lecturers, this made the students to stage a peaceful protest some weeks ago which never moved the government to get the issue solved.
