Abandoned road in Oshodi

The less than 300 metres road that links the two church bus stops in Oshodi is known as Daodu Street. The street is important in the transport network within the community. It also connects  communities like Mile 2  and Isolo to other communities  like Ikeja and Agege. This important road has deteriorated to the point of total collapse for years. Previous administrations have neglected the road without any moves to upgrade, re-surface or re-construct it.  A female friend once jokingly said that she often quarrelled with Okada riders for taking her through this terrible road. It’s that bad.Over six months ago, the Bolaji Ariyo-led government commenced the rehabilitation of this road much to everyone’s delight. Alas, after over six months, the road has yet to be completed; in fact, the rehabilitation has been abandoned without any trace of the contractor. This is not expected from an administration that brought so much hope to the people of Oshodi-Isolo. The newly registered All Progressives Congress will find it difficult to convince people that it is different from the Peoples Democratic Party if we continue to get this kind of  dismal performance from their elected officers.

Pro-Sambo PDP In Kaduna Threatens Pro-Baraje Faction With Arrest

Upset with the emergence in Kaduna State of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to Abubakar Kawu Baraje, top officials of the Kaduna chapter of the party who remain loyal to Bamanga Tukur and Vice President Namadi Sambo are threatening their rivals with arrest. In a statement released in Kaduna and signed by Ibrahim Mansur, a spokesman for the pro-Tukur PDP, the group wrote: “It has come to our notice that a group of self-serving and out of favor politicians masquerading as members of our great party, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Kaduna State has resorted to seeking cheap relevance by declaring loyalty to the illegal and outlawed faction of the party led by Alhaji Kawu Baraje and his co-travelers. The group of political opportunists led by a former chairman of the PDP in Kaduna State, Alhaji Audi Yaro Makama, and a former member of the State House of Assembly, Yakubu Gideon Morik, is completely on the derailed path as the Kaduna State Chapter of the PDP remains solidly behind the leadership of our National Chairman, Alhaji (Dr.) Bamanga Tukur.”Mr. Mansur argued that there was only one PDP, which he named as the one led by Mr. Tukur, claiming that the issue had been determined by a court of competent jurisdiction. He dismissed the splinter group, calling their claims “false and totally criminal, as the party is intact and united under the able leadership of Dr. Abubakar Gaya Haruna.”Threatening the pro-Baraje PDP with arrest, the statement by the pro-Bamanga faction said: “The PDP in Kaduna State remains undivided and one big family that is committed to the transformation agenda of our leader, His Excellency President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and his Vice, Arc. Sambo. Makama and his ilk are known self-centered politicians who are bent on discrediting His Excellency Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo over their insatiable quest for patronage and accumulation of wealth.“Any attempt at creating confusion by political jobbers under the guise of dirty party politics will surely attract the attention of law enforcement agencies. We reject the negative ploy by Makama and a handful of ‘food is ready’ politicians in his camp aimed at creating confusion in the party. Makama must be reminded that there is time for everything; he cannot remain chairman of PDP forever. It is his turn to follow others just like he was followed during his time.”

APC, Aggrieved PDP Govs May Form Alliance for 2015

As the intra party crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues to take its toll on the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it may go into a strategic alliance with the seven aggrieved northern PDP governors in the run up to the 2015 general election. The open invitation by APC came just as the newly appointed youth leader of the rival PDP, Comrade Timi Frank, warned yesterday that if the move by the New PDP to rescue the party and to reposition it fails, the party would lose the 2015 general election. In a statement in Abuja, the New PDP youth leader threatened to lead a mass protest over the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ (ASUU) strike, saying the non-resolution of the strike by university lecturers was the height of insensitivity on the part of the federal government.Speaking on the phone with THISDAY yesterday, the interim National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, said the party would not hesitate to receive the seven governors behind the New PDP revolt with open arms.“We will welcome them with open arms and like I said before, we feel that these seven governors are too important to our political dynamics to be ignored. So we are going to welcome them and we will accommodate them,” he said.Muhammed, who spoke against the backdrop of a recent statement credited to the Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwakwanso, that the aggrieved governors might be forced to pitch their tent with the opposition party should the struggle in PDP fail, noted that APC considers a partnership with the governors as very strategic. On whether the governors’ agenda and that of APC was in sync, Muhammed said: “To the extent that they are not satisfied with the PDP because of the lack of proper organisation by the PDP, it tallies with our own.“It is when they come that we will now see which part of their agenda we can accommodate and how they can add value also to the APC vision.“We should not forget that many of these governors are serving two terms in office, and as such have got vast experience both at the state and national levels. In fact, some of them have been former federal ministers, permanent secretaries and they are not the kind of people you can ignore.“They are very vital resources, they are very strategic for us and if we are able to strike a bargain and agree on a position with them, of course it will help the polity, not just APC but the whole of Nigeria.”However, the youth leader of the splinter PDP, Frank, said its leaders were determined to rescue the party and as such were not yet considering leaving it to join any new party. He said the objective of the New PDP is to take the party back to its glorious days.
