UNIJOS-ASUU Condemns Ongoing Post-UTME Test, Calls For Cancellation

THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos Branch, rose from its meeting yesterday, dissociating itself from the ongoing Post University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) test being conducted by the non-academic staff of the institution. ASUU also passed a vote of no confidence in the exercise and its outcome just as it condemned the exercise and called for its outright cancellation.
Reading the text stating their position, which was signed by ASUU UNIJOS Chairman, Dr. David Nansoh Jangkam and Secretary, Dr. Noel Wannang at a press conference Friday, Jangkam said that it amounted to a breach of university rules on examinations which vest the preparation and conduct of examinations the sole and sacred responsibility of academic staff.
He called on the university council and senate to rise up to its task of defending and preserving the academic integrity of the university system.
Jangkam noted that the union has strived to carry every sector of the University of Jos on board, adding that it appears that the administration lacks the will power to tell their “master” the truth possibly out of fear.
He lamented that the conduct of the Post-UTME test would undermine the strike by ASUU, which would subsequently water down academic excellence and integrity as the academic staff are not involved.
