Goodluck Jonathan and Olusegun Obasanjo Peoples Democratic Party supporters   in the   North-West on Monday urged the party’s  governors to speak up on the issues raised by   former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his letter to President Goodluck Jonathan. The supporters,  under the aegis of the North-West Solidarity Forum, said the PDP governors’  continued silence on the issues was worrisome. The Zonal Leader of the forum, Alhaji Abubakar Danfulani, said this in a statement  made available to journalists in Abuja. They said  there was a need for the governors to take steps to reconcile the two leading figures in the party. The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Tuesday called off its over five months old strike after deliberations that started on Monday morning and lasted till the early hours of Tuesday. The Union’s President Dr. Nasir Fagge, told journalists at the press briefing, which held at the Science Complex building of the Federal University of Technology, Bosso Campus, Minna, Niger State, that it accepted the resolutions signed between ASUU and the Federal Government on the 11th December, 2013 with the President of Nigeria Labour Congress. “Finally, NEC resolved to suspend the strike embarked upon on 1st July 2013, with effect from Tuesday December 17th, 2013 and directs its branches to resume work forthwith”, he said. Fagge however condemned some universities’ Vice Chancellors, who tried to sabotage the efforts of the Union. Six U.S. troops were killed Tuesday in a helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan after what appears to be an engine failure, a U.S. defense official said. There was one survivor in the crash There was no enemy activity in the area at the time of the crash, according to NATO, and the U.S. defense official said early reports indicate the helicopter's engine failed. The troops were members of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force. The troops' names have not been released. It is ISAF policy to allow national authorities to identify casualties. FORMER Vice President, Atiku Abubakar yesterday said he was humbled sitting on the front- row at both the state funeral and private burial ceremonies of former South Africa President, Nelson Mandela at his native home at Qunu, near Mthatha in the Eastern Cape Province. The All Progressives Congress has called on the National Assembly to immediately commence the process of impeaching President Goodluck Jonathan for alleged gross misconduct. It  said  in a statement on Sunday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, that Jonathan’s impeachment  would  save Nigeria from imminent collapse.
