Peter Obi Some officials of the Anambra State Association-USA (ASA-USA), a watchdog group formed in part to monitor and address looting and other excesses by Anambra State politicians, have been accused of acting as the lapdogs of corrupt politicians. SaharaReporters first broke the report that some officials of the association are accused of receiving $60,000 from Ifeanyi Uba, a controversial oil marketer turned governorship candidate. A group of disaffected members of the association filed a lawsuit in California accusing several of the association’s officials of acting illegally and failing to give proper account of ASA-USA’s finances. Efforts by Governor Peter Obi of Anambra to persuade the plaintiffs to withdraw their lawsuit hit a snag, as several of the plaintiffs dismissed the governor’s entreaties. The woman, a mother of one child, which she had for the deceased husband, yesterday, said she did not ask her lover, who was her late husband’s friend, to kill him. She said her lover (Samson) had approached her several times for love-making, which she always turned down. She said: “I knew Samson through my husband. He has been coming to our house whenever my husband traveled. My husband did not stay home regularly. “Samson will come to the house, requesting for lovemaking. This is contained in a statement signed by the UNIC National Information Officer, Mr Oluseyi Soremekun, made available in Abuja. The statement is coming barely a day to the World Mental Health Day often celebrated every October 10. The statement noted that the 2013 World Mental Health Day would focus on older adults, offering an opportunity to raise awareness of problems such as dementia and depression and how to overcome them. BY: FUNMI OJUROYE  October 9th 2013 The Plateau State Police Command on Wednesday paraded a 25-year-old farmer, Nanbul Samson, suspected to have killed one Nanbol, the husband of a woman he was going out with. Also paraded was Mrs Yakbyen Nanbol, 25, who was Samson’s lover. According to Mr Chris Olakpe, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Samson committed the offence in Langtang North Local Government Area on Sept. 13. He said that the suspect would be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to other residents that were “incapable of keeping their libido down’’.
