Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), who inaugurated the committees for the grading and certification of hotels and hospitality facilities as well as for hearing and addressing grievances arising from the exercise saw the constitution of the committees as a positive step in re-energizing the industry. The main Committee, Hotels Grading and Certification Committee, headed by Larry Segun-lean, is to grade and certify the hotels in terms of their standards as one, two, three, four or five star hotels while the second committee, the Appeal Committee, chaired by Mr. Gbolahan Elias, is to hear appeals and address complaints arising from the exercise. A judge took the decision after lawyer  Ismail Ayob , acting for Mr Mandela's daughters, withdrew from the case. The women were trying to gain control of the companies, said to be worth about Sh143m. Mr Mandela's grandson Mandla accused them of trying to "loot" the 95-year-old ex-president's wealth. Mr Mandela has been seriously ill in hospital since 8 June. He spent 27 years in prison for fighting white supremacist rule in South Africa and became its first democratically elected president in 1994. He stepped down from office five years later. Britain said in a statement Monday that it will go ahead with the pilot scheme despite the outrage, charges of discrimination and warnings of retaliation. The statement sent by email did not say when the pilot program would start. But it said it could apply the scheme in the future for all visas and any country. "The pilot will apply to visitor visas, but if the scheme is successful we'd like to be able to apply it on an intelligence-led basis on any visa route and any country," it said. The warning comes from Dr Yitades Gebre, adviser, Family Health Disease Management at the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO). In a statement issued to the media last Thursday, Gebre said the first case of MERS-CoV was reported in 2012 and has affected nine countries to date. “Globally, from September 2012 to July 21, 2013, WHO has been informed of a total of 90 laboratory-confirmed cases of infection with MERS-CoV, including 45 deaths.
